As we gather for the Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost, we will hear the familiar healing story of Jesus and Bartimaeus, a man living in blindness. The story has many possible points for reflection and we will explore the courage of Bartimaeus, the compassion of Jesus, the initial criticism of the crowd, and the misunderstandings of the disciples, to mention just a few. We will discuss how Bartimaeus' restoration of vision is also his restoration to the community, and how this story gives us courage and hope for today.
