As we gather for the Third Sunday in Lent, we hear an exchange of questions and teachings by Jesus regarding the important topics of suffering, sin, and repentance. In the verses prior to our weekly Gospel lesson, Jesus is admonishing people for knowing the signs and meanings of earthly things, but living lives disconnected from the meanings of God's ways. The crowd tells Jesus of a tragic end to a group of Galileans at the hands of Pilate, yet Jesus takes the opportunity to add more sorrowful stories rather than address the crowd's shocking tale. Jesus takes the opportunity to stress the importance of faithfulness and fidelity to living according to God's word and ways, and that a fruitful life is what God intends for each of us. We will reflect on how God's forgiveness and faithfulness to us leads us to live a life of discipleship and deeper understanding of God's intentions for us.
