As we gather for the Second Sunday of Advent, we will hear from the father of John the Baptist, Zechariah the temple priest. Zechariah was visited by an angel of the Lord at the beginning of the pregnancy of Elizabeth, and he was not quite convinced that God could do the miraculous things the angel predicted. For his questioning heart, he was made mute until the birth and naming of John. After several months of quite reflection (very quiet!), we hear Zechariah's prophecy of his son and of the mighty works of God. How might we "see" the unexpected things in our lives and come to believe that God is with us?
